ChainCatcher reported that Elon Musk’s SpaceX has officially gone public. In the S-1 filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission during its IPO process, the company disclosed that it holds 18,712 BTC. Based on a current bitcoin price of about $63,000, that portion of its balance sheet is worth approximately $1.18 billion.
SpaceX ranks among the largest public-company bitcoin holders
With 18,712 BTC disclosed in the filing, SpaceX has become the eighth-largest public company bitcoin holder globally. The company’s bitcoin position has been on its balance sheet for some time, with an average purchase cost of around $35,000 per BTC. Compared with the current price of about $63,000, the holding represents a sizable paper gain according to the figures included in the report.
The disclosure was made through the S-1 document that SpaceX filed with the U.S. SEC in connection with its IPO. The filing provides key information related to the public listing, including the company’s bitcoin holdings. After the listing, the BTC allocation on SpaceX’s balance sheet becomes part of the treasury asset structure visible to public-market investors.
SpaceX and Tesla hold a combined 30,221 BTC
Another publicly listed company under Elon Musk, Tesla, also holds 11,509 BTC. Combining SpaceX’s 18,712 BTC with Tesla’s 11,509 BTC brings the total bitcoin holdings of the two companies to 30,221 BTC.
If the bitcoin positions of SpaceX and Tesla were counted together, their combined holdings would be large enough to rank fifth among public companies worldwide. ChainCatcher reported that SpaceX’s listing gives traditional investment portfolios indirect exposure to bitcoin and shows that large strategic companies are increasingly accepting bitcoin as a treasury asset.
