Tencent is reportedly developing a Personal Agent product called Handy Bot and plans to launch it as a standalone app, according to Dujia, as cited by ChainCatcher. The report says the product has already appeared quietly as a WeChat service account with the description "Your Personal AI Agent," though it remains in internal testing and official details have not been released. The report places Tencent’s move in the middle of a broader industry push around Personal Agent products. Unlike traditional chatbots that rely on direct conversation prompts, Personal Agents are described as operating around a user’s persistent state and continuing to work on tasks in the background after receiving broader goals. Meta’s recently launched Muse is cited as a key example, with each user assigned an isolated Secure VM environment for browser-based tasks such as price comparison, email handling, and itinerary monitoring. The same report says Chinese tech companies are also exploring the category. Alibaba’s Qwen team has discussed building a Personal Agent for users, while ByteDance’s Doubao has reportedly been developing a personal assistant product under the codename Spell. The report adds that commercialization will depend on balancing model planning ability, ecosystem tool access, and compliance and privacy boundaries.

Tencent is secretly developing a Personal Agent product called Handy Bot and plans to release it as a standalone app, according to Dujia, as cited in a ChainCatcher report.

The product has already appeared quietly on WeChat as a service account with the description "Your Personal AI Agent." The report said it is still in internal testing, and that any final details should be subject to Tencent’s official statement.

Personal Agent products are drawing wider attention

The report said the industry is now focused on the Personal Agent theme. Meta’s recently launched Muse has pushed consumer-facing agent products into a new round of discussion.

Unlike traditional chatbots, which are driven by direct conversation, a Personal Agent is described as being centered on a user’s state boundary. In that setup, the AI has a persistent operating environment and can continue handling tasks in the background after receiving a broader goal.

How Meta Muse was described in the report

According to the report, Meta Muse assigns each user an independent Secure VM, or secure virtual machine. Browser activity and web operations are isolated inside that environment for tasks including price comparison shopping, email processing, and itinerary monitoring.

Chinese companies are also exploring the category

The report said domestic companies have also entered an early research phase. Alibaba’s Qwen team raised the idea of building a user-owned Personal Agent at the Apsara Conference, while ByteDance’s Doubao has also reportedly been developing a personal assistant product under the codename Spell.

The report added that bringing such products to market will require a balance between model task-planning ability, openness of the surrounding tool ecosystem, and compliance and privacy boundaries.
