Tencent Hunyuan has released and open-sourced Hy4 preview, its next-generation large language model. The model has 770B total parameters and 49B active parameters, with a context window exceeding 1M. ChainCatcher reports that Hy4 preview is already in the top tier of open-source models, showing strong performance on real productivity tasks in coding, office work and scientific research.
Model scale and data collaboration
Hy4 preview expands model size, context length and data scale in a significant way. It was built with high-quality data co-developed with Tencent experts across software engineering, game development, finance and security, and refined through deep coordination with products such as WorkBuddy to boost real-world performance.
Capability highlights
For software engineering, the model strengthens understanding, planning, debugging and verification in long-horizon development tasks. It can build complex front-end projects from scratch, including a Three.js miniature town.
In game development, Hy4 preview can generate a playable prototype from one sentence and complete a full demo in Unity. For intelligent office work, it handles complex financial audits, screening, analyzing and delivering results from multiple documents. In scientific research, it speeds up molecular dynamics simulation tasks and has started to form a recursive self-improvement loop.
Availability and update cadence
Hy4 preview is available in Tencent products including WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy domestic and international editions, Yuanbao and ima. Developers can also access it through Tencent Cloud Tokenhub and OpenRouter via API. WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy will run a two-week limited-time free promotion.
Since the infrastructure rebuild, Hunyuan has shipped a major model version roughly every two months, using a preview-first approach followed by formal releases.
