A technical comparison report has raised questions about Tencent’s international version of WorkBuddy AI, alleging that its built-in CodeBuddy CLI reused internal content from Claude Code. After unpacking the WorkBuddy desktop client and comparing it with leaked Claude Code source code, the report said it found 224 identical text passages, with the longest reaching 494 characters. In Claude Code’s memory management file, `memoryTypes.ts`, 46 out of 69 candidate passages were said to also appear in WorkBuddy. The report said the overlap went beyond generic tool names and included internal prompt text that guides an AI system on when to remember user corrections and affirmations. It also claimed that the WorkBuddy program retained five internal event names with the `tengu_` prefix, including `tengu_goal_set`, as well as paths such as `/tmp/claude` and `.claude/debug`. `tengu` is described as an internal codename used by Claude Code. At the same time, the report noted an alternative explanation for some of the overlap. Tencent’s CodeBuddy already supports the Claude Code plugin specification, meaning certain matching paths may exist for compatibility reasons. Claude Code is closed-source commercial software, but about 510,000 lines of its code were accidentally leaked on March 31 this year.

A technical comparison report has questioned whether Tencent’s international version of WorkBuddy AI reused internal content from Claude Code.

The report’s author unpacked the WorkBuddy desktop client and compared its built-in CodeBuddy CLI with leaked Claude Code source code, saying the review found 224 identical text passages, with the longest spanning 494 characters.

What the report says overlaps

According to the report, Claude Code’s memory management file memoryTypes.ts alone contained 69 candidate passages, and 46 of them also appeared in WorkBuddy.

The matching material was said to include internal prompt text that tells the AI when to remember user corrections and affirmations, rather than only generic tool names.

Internal codename traces also appeared in the program

The report also said the WorkBuddy program retained five internal event names carrying the tengu_ prefix, including tengu_goal_set, along with paths such as /tmp/claude and .claude/debug.

tengu is an internal codename used by Claude Code.

Some matching paths may be tied to compatibility

The report also noted that Tencent’s CodeBuddy already supports the Claude Code plugin specification, so some identical paths may exist for compatibility reasons.

Claude Code is closed-source commercial software, but roughly 510,000 lines of its source code were accidentally leaked on March 31 this year.
