ChainCatcher reported, citing an official announcement, that Tether will phase out support for the Alloy by Tether platform and aUSD₮. The company said the decision followed an assessment of user activity, market demand and its overall strategic priorities. Effective immediately, the platform has closed the functions for opening new positions and minting new aUSD₮.
Existing users receive a three-month return window
According to Tether, existing users will still be able to return aUSD₮ and withdraw the gold stablecoin XAU₮ during the next three months. The transition arrangement keeps the return and withdrawal process available for current users, while preventing any new position creation or additional aUSD₮ minting on the platform.
The announcement states that from September 17, 2026, users who have not completed the return process will no longer be able to retrieve XAU₮ through the Alloy by Tether platform. Tether added that it will direct resources toward XAU₮ and other core products within its ecosystem going forward.
