Tether said on Sept. 28 that it has helped U.S. and international law enforcement agencies freeze about $550 million in USDT linked to the Central Bank of Iran and Iranian sanctions networks since the start of 2026. The company said that in April, acting on information provided by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control, or OFAC, and U.S. law enforcement, it froze more than $344 million in USDT held across two addresses. In July, after the U.S. Treasury expanded sanctions targeting the Central Bank of Iran, Tether said it froze more than $130 million in USDT across four TRON addresses. Tether said the two actions together totaled about $550 million. The company also disclosed broader enforcement figures, saying it has worked with more than 340 law enforcement agencies across 67 jurisdictions, supported more than 2,900 investigations, and frozen more than $4.9 billion in assets overall. CEO Paolo Ardoino said public blockchains allow investigators to trace fund flows and that Tether can freeze funds after receiving credible information from authorities.

According to the company, in April it froze more than $344 million in USDT across two addresses based on information provided by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and U.S. law enforcement agencies. In July, after the U.S. Treasury expanded sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran, Tether said it froze more than $130 million in USDT across four TRON addresses. Tether also said it is currently working with more than 340 law enforcement agencies across 67 countries and regions and has supported more than 2,900 investigations. Of those, more than 1,600 involved U.S. law enforcement agencies. The company said it has frozen more than $4.9 billion in assets in total, including more than $2.4 billion tied to U.S. law enforcement cases.

He added that Tether can take freezing action after receiving credible information from law enforcement and will continue assisting efforts against sanctions evasion, terrorist financing and other financial crimes.
