According to Odaily, Tether Chief Executive Officer Paolo Ardoino announced in a post on X that the number of self-custodial wallets created with WDK open-source technology has surpassed 100,000. The figure was presented as a milestone for wallet creation based on the WDK toolkit and reflects the tool’s use in real crypto infrastructure deployment.
The report said the development shows that open-source wallet development tools are being applied more quickly in practical crypto infrastructure. It also points to continued growth in both the user scale of the self-custody ecosystem and developer adoption. In this context, self-custodial wallets refer to wallets where users retain control over their own assets, making deployment numbers a relevant measure for observing how this part of the ecosystem is being used.
WDK is an open-source wallet development kit supported by Tether. Based on the information shared by Ardoino, the toolkit can be integrated into any device, covering environments from embedded systems to mobile, desktop and server operating systems. The milestone of more than 100,000 wallets indicates that WDK has been used across a broader range of development and deployment workflows.
