Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has finalized a crypto travel rule that will require digital asset operators to identify the sender and recipient in every crypto transaction. The rule is set to take effect on Feb. 27, 2027, and introduces a set of compliance duties for firms operating in the country. Under the framework, operators must establish transfer risk policies, collect identity data for customers and counterparties, and transmit sender and recipient information along with each transfer. They will also need to retain transaction records for at least five years, with the first two years available for immediate regulatory access when requested. The rule also adds a requirement around self-hosted wallets. Operators must verify whether users control the funds in those wallets before processing relevant transfers. Thai regulators said the measure is designed to reduce money laundering and terrorist financing risks and to align the country’s oversight standards with the international anti-money laundering framework set by the Financial Action Task Force.
