According to CryptoComLearn, TRON Super Representatives have officially submitted Proposal #106, aiming to modify the execution logic and energy cost of the SELFDESTRUCT instruction, thereby improving the compatibility of the TRON Virtual Machine (TVM) with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The proposal is currently in the committee voting phase and, if approved, will be implemented on April 10, 2026, at 20:00 (Singapore Time).

Key Changes: Stricter Conditions for Contract Deletion

Under the new rules, the SELFDESTRUCT instruction will only delete a contract if it is invoked within the same transaction that created the contract. In all other cases, calling SELFDESTRUCT will merely trigger the transfer of assets held by the contract, while the contract itself will remain intact. This adjustment aligns with Ethereum's EIP-6780 approach, aiming to limit the destructiveness of SELFDESTRUCT and enhance protection against accidental contract destruction.

Sharp Energy Cost Increase

Another key change is that the energy cost for SELFDESTRUCT will jump from 0 to 5,000. Energy is the resource required to execute smart contracts on the TRON network. Previously free, the increased cost forces developers to account for higher transaction expenses. The TRON team stated that this move will reduce over-reliance on SELFDESTRUCT and curb potential attack vectors.

TRON has advised developers using SELFDESTRUCT to monitor the proposal's progress and adjust their contract logic in advance to ensure normal operation after the upgrade. Additionally, users experiencing node synchronization issues should upgrade to version 4.8.1 to accommodate upcoming network changes.
