Most Americans surveyed in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll said it is not appropriate for US President Donald Trump and his family to make money from cryptocurrency investments while he is in office.

The poll, conducted Aug. 14-17 among 1,166 people, found that 63% of respondents said it was not appropriate for Trump and his family to earn through crypto. The partisan divide was pronounced. Among Republicans surveyed, 69% said it was appropriate, while 92% of Democrats answered negatively.
Reuters was cited as the source for the poll results.
June disclosure detailed crypto-linked earnings
A report released in June by the US Office of Government Ethics disclosed that Trump earned $1.4 billion in 2025 from investments tied to crypto. The disclosure included income connected to the family’s World Liberty Financial company and his memecoin, Official Trump (TRUMP).

Responding to requests for comment on Trump’s crypto investments, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly has repeatedly said there were “no conflicts of interest.”
Lawmakers seek investigations as Senate vote approaches
Several lawmakers have called for investigations and for government agencies to provide additional information about World Liberty and the Trump family’s investments.
In July, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he had introduced legislation to create an agency focused on corruption at the federal level. He pointed to the president’s “various, and extremely lucrative, cryptocurrency ventures.”

On Wednesday, Trump spoke about crypto at a White House press conference attended by many C-suite executives and industry leaders. He and others urged senators to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which is expected to define the roles of US regulatory agencies overseeing digital assets. The bill is scheduled for a cloture vote on Sept. 15.
A related article also noted that the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, or OCC, approved a trust charter for a Trump family crypto company.
