Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. reported quarterly results that beat market expectations and raised its full-year revenue and capital spending outlook, according to BlockBeats. The company said second-quarter net profit reached NT$706.6 billion, above the market estimate of NT$623.73 billion, while gross margin came in at 67.7%, also ahead of expectations. Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei said during the meeting that AI represents a new industry and that strong demand should continue through 2030. He also made pointed remarks about the profitability seen elsewhere in the semiconductor supply chain, saying he was “really jealous” after seeing memory companies post gross margins as high as 86%. At the same time, Wei said TSMC would not sharply raise prices in a way that pushes customers out of the market, stressing that the company must remain a partner to its memory customers. He added that “our customers must succeed,” while acknowledging that one of his Korean competitors had indeed made substantial profits.

Wei says AI demand will remain strong through 2030

Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei said AI is a completely new industry and that strong demand will continue through 2030.

Wei also commented on the profitability of memory makers, saying he was “really jealous” after seeing gross margins as high as 86% at memory companies. He added that TSMC, as a partner to memory customers, would not suddenly impose large price increases that squeeze customers out of the market. “Our customers must succeed,” Wei said. He also noted that one of his Korean competitors had indeed made a lot of money and said frankly that he was envious.
