UBS, Switzerland’s largest bank, increased its position in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The bank now holds 2.5 million shares worth more than $83.2 million, adding to a Bitcoin exposure that has been building since BlackRock’s fund won approval in 2024. The filing also shows UBS has positions in other Bitcoin-related and premium income ETFs, lifting its total cryptocurrency ETF exposure to about $90 million. Separate from those ETF holdings, UBS also owns a stake worth just under $1.5 million in American Bitcoin Corp., a Bitcoin mining company backed by Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. The report noted that earlier this year, news emerged that UBS was planning to offer Bitcoin trading to a select group of private clients in Switzerland. BlackRock’s IBIT remains the largest crypto ETF by assets, with $47.3 billion under management.

UBS has increased its exposure to Bitcoin by buying more shares of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The Swiss bank’s position in the fund now stands at more than $83.2 million.

The filing shows UBS added to its holdings in BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF, taking its total position to 2.5 million shares valued at over $83 million. The fund trades under the ticker IBIT.

Bitcoin Magazine said UBS has been gradually increasing its Bitcoin exposure since BlackRock’s flagship fund was approved in 2024. On August 13, 2026, the publication highlighted the disclosure showing UBS owned $83.2 million of BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF.

Traditional institutions keep using ETFs for Bitcoin exposure

The filing is the latest example of a traditional financial institution seeking exposure to Bitcoin through regulated investment products rather than holding the asset directly. Funds such as BlackRock’s Bitcoin Trust give investors access to the price of Bitcoin without requiring them to store the digital asset themselves.

Since the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved a group of Bitcoin funds in January 2024, major firms have been able to gain exposure through shares of regulated vehicles that trade on stock exchanges.

According to the report, BlackRock’s IBIT is the most successful crypto ETF so far. It has taken in more cash than any other crypto ETF and currently manages $47.3 billion in assets.

Pension funds and U.S. states have also used these ETFs to add Bitcoin exposure, alongside more traditional investments such as technology stocks and other U.S. equities.

UBS has about $90 million across Bitcoin-related ETFs

IBIT is not UBS’s only Bitcoin-linked investment. The filing shows the bank also has exposure to other premium income and Bitcoin-related ETFs, bringing its total holdings in cryptocurrency ETFs to around $90 million.

UBS has also invested in American Bitcoin Corp., the Bitcoin mining company backed by U.S. President Donald Trump’s sons, Eric and Donald Jr. That position is worth a little under $1.5 million, the report said.

Report also points to planned Bitcoin trading for select clients

Earlier this year, news emerged that UBS was planning to offer Bitcoin trading to a select group of private clients in Switzerland.
