Vevue, a video review app initially built on Ethereum, has abandoned its token model and now pays users in Bitcoin for short video clips. Founder Thomas Olson allocates 6 BTC for beta testing each clip earning micropayments.

Video review app Vevue (pronounced ‘vay-view’), which originally launched as an Ethereum-based Dapp, has fully transitioned to a Bitcoin-only reward system. Founder Thomas Olson explained in an interview with Bitcoin.com that the move simplifies the user experience and aligns with the company's vision of peer-to-peer journalism.

How to Earn Bitcoin with Vevue

Users can now pin any location or event on a map and attach a Bitcoin bounty (called a Request). Other users—called recorders—then visit the pinned spot, shoot a short video, and upload it to claim the bounty. Olson noted: “The only way to earn Bitcoin is by responding to an existing Request on the map.” To jumpstart activity, Vevue itself pins 5 bits (0.000001 BTC each) near users' locations. Each valid video response earns 1 bit. For higher-quality content approved in advance, payments can reach 100 bits per video.

The bounty funds currently come entirely from Olson’s personal e-business revenue. “My budget for Beta testing is 6 BTC,” he revealed. “1 BTC is used to create Requests at 5 bits each, and 5 BTC are reserved for rewarding creators who produce quality content.” The minimum withdrawal threshold is set at 100 bits, encouraging users to build up small earnings before cashing out.

Vevue’s Vision: Peer-to-Peer Journalism

Beyond simple micro-tasking, Vevue aims to become a decentralized news-gathering tool. “We see a lot of potential for Vevue as a form of peer-to-peer journalism,” Olson said. “We're looking for individuals in unique locations covering unique things.” Each user has a social profile; only videos uploaded in response to a pinned Request are paid. Non-requested videos appear on a user's feed but generate no income. While a reputation system is planned, the current focus is on rewarding creativity and ambition.

App Availability and Mechanics

Vevue is currently available for Android. After installation, users must enable GPS to see nearby Requests. They can deposit Bitcoin to create their own Requests or film videos to earn Bitcoin. The entire ecosystem now runs solely on Bitcoin, eliminating the complexity of the previous Ethereum token model. Olson believes this clarity will accelerate user adoption. “We want users to immediately understand how to earn and spend, without confusing token mechanics,” he concluded.
