Financial Giants Join Forces to Launch OUSD Stablecoin
According to a Bloomberg report, dozens of major financial institutions—including Visa, Stripe, Mastercard, BlackRock, and Coinbase—are planning to jointly launch a new stablecoin called OUSD. Unlike traditional stablecoins that typically rely on a single issuer or a centralized reserve model, OUSD will feature a revenue-sharing business model among its partner institutions. Under this model, each participating institution will share in the revenue generated from the stablecoin's issuance and circulation based on its contribution. This structure is designed to incentivize broad participation and create a more decentralized and cooperative ecosystem for stablecoin operations. The involvement of such high-profile traditional finance and payments heavyweights signals a strategic push into the digital asset space, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of the stablecoin market. OUSD's launch could also accelerate institutional adoption of blockchain-based payment and settlement systems, while raising questions about regulatory oversight and the sustainability of shared revenue models in the crypto sector.
