Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin sold 3,788.57 ETH over the past three days, worth roughly $7.3 million at current prices. Blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain said on X that the activity came from the wallet labeled vitalik.eth, extending a recent pattern of founder-linked sales that traders have been watching closely.

The transactions arrived during a weak stretch for Ether. ETH has been trading around the $1,800 level after slipping from higher prices earlier in the week. Over the last seven days, the token is down nearly 8%. Bitcoin also fell below $65,000, adding to a cautious tone across the broader crypto market.

Recent sales draw attention during price weakness

Because the wallet is tied to one of Ethereum’s founders, the transfers quickly drew market attention. Large on-chain movements from prominent figures often fuel short-term speculation, especially when prices are already under pressure. In this case, traders are watching whether continued outflows linked to Buterin will add any extra weight to Ether’s near-term price action.

Earlier reports had already noted ETH transfers and liquidations associated with Buterin during periods of market softness. Some previous coverage said parts of those transactions were connected to charitable donations and ecosystem funding. Still, on-chain data by itself does not always reveal the final use of the funds, so the purpose behind each sale cannot be confirmed from wallet activity alone.

Holdings remain large despite the disposals

The latest sales represent only a slice of Buterin’s broader holdings. According to Arkham data cited in the report, wallets attributed to him still hold more than $430 million in assets. That leaves his remaining ETH exposure substantial even after the recent disposal.

At the same time, Buterin has recently been speaking publicly about Ethereum’s long-term resilience. In his latest commentary, he described a security-focused blueprint aimed at improving wallet safety and reducing systemic risks in decentralized finance, or DeFi. For now, the market is focused on the wallet flows, while the scale of his remaining holdings suggests the recent sales are still a relatively small part of the total.
