Vitalik Says Ethereum’s Roadmap Is Shifting Toward Quantum Security and Native Privacy

Vitalik Buterin said he compared Ethereum’s 2023 roadmap with the current Strawmap and found that the broad direction still overlaps to a large extent, even though several priorities and technical paths have changed. He said the updated plan gives greater weight to quantum security, while placing less emphasis on VDFs and some EVM upgrades. Older designs are also being replaced by approaches such as unified binary trees, PBT, and new state types. Buterin said the most visible change in the current Strawmap is the addition of topics that were not included in the 2023 roadmap. He added that Ethereum’s scaling approach is moving away from trying to scale all activity at once and toward building specialized mechanisms for specific high-load use cases. He also described STARK proofs and AI-accelerated formal verification as important foundations for the protocol’s future.

He added that STARK proofs and AI-accelerated formal verification should be seen as important foundations for the protocol going forward. Taken together, the update shows Ethereum’s roadmap evolving toward quantum security, privacy-first design, censorship resistance, high performance, and a simpler protocol architecture.
