WeChat Pay has introduced an AI-specific card designed as a separate small wallet isolated from the user’s main wallet. The feature is being tested in the context of whether an “AI Shopping” era has arrived, with the core question focused on how far an AI Agent can participate in a real payment process.

A separate wallet with user confirmation

According to the test description, the WeChat AI card does not directly grant access to the main wallet. Instead, it operates as an independent payment pocket. Users can initiate spending through AI Agent scenarios such as Workbuddy, but each payment still requires manual confirmation from the user before it can be completed.

At the current stage, the AI card is suited to standardized digital services, including paid content, API calls and subscription services. These use cases have clearer payment targets and more predictable delivery. By contrast, more complex lifestyle services such as ordering milk tea involve selection, ordering, fulfillment and delivery steps, and the card has not yet shown stable end-to-end completion for those scenarios.
