World, a Solana-based prediction market, opened its standalone website world.xyz on Sept. 9 to a waitlist of more than 1 million users, only to take the site offline after traffic surged beyond expectations. The team said in a post early on Sept. 10 that the volume of visits could 「literally overload the site」 and that the shutdown was a precaution while fixes were being made. It also said user funds were safe and that the reward campaign would resume once repairs were complete. The immediate catalyst was a first-trade incentive tied to account creation, linking an X account, and placing a prediction trade. Rewards were paid in Phantom’s dollar stablecoin CASH, with community reports showing payouts varied by user and timing. One user said they received $378, while community discussion put the upper end at roughly $500. Some users also reported technical issues, including USDC deposits not arriving, deposit addresses changing after refresh, and rewards not being received after completing trades. World had already been running inside Phantom since July and has launched more than 150,000 markets. Its system is built around CASH for trading and settlement, while Phantom handles front-end access, wallet functions, and distribution, and Chainlink supplies market data and automated settlement. Dune data shows World at about $31 million in total prediction volume and roughly 53,600 unique predictors, still well behind Polymarket’s reported scale.

World, a Solana-based prediction market, launched its standalone site world.xyz on Sept. 9 and opened access to more than 1 million users on its waitlist. The site went down on its first day after traffic surged beyond what the platform had expected.

Launch-day demand overwhelmed the standalone site

The newly opened platform listed markets across the full NFL regular season schedule, seven major football leagues, Formula 1, the 2026 midterm elections, and the Federal Reserve’s next rate decision.

Before the standalone launch, World had been operating inside the Phantom wallet since July. During that period, it rolled out more than 150,000 markets. Once the dedicated site opened, traffic quickly climbed and the website was taken offline.

In a post published early on Sept. 10, the World team said the traffic was enough to 「literally overload the site」. It said the website had been temporarily shut down as a precaution while fixes were being made. The team also said all funds were safe and that the reward campaign would resume after repairs. As of the time referenced in the source report, the site had not yet returned to service.

First-trade rewards drove the traffic spike

The immediate trigger for the rush was a first-trade reward campaign introduced at the same time as the standalone launch.

Based on feedback shared in the community, users were asked to create an account, link an X account, and complete one prediction trade before claiming a reward settled in CASH, Phantom’s dollar stablecoin. World did not publish a fixed reward schedule. Payouts varied by user, time window, and eligibility. One user said they received $378, and community discussion suggested the reward could reach roughly the $500 range at the high end.

Crypto blogger Chen Xiaomeng said in a post that the reward appeared to be tied to X follower count, with around $80 for an account with 10,000 followers. That claim has not been confirmed by World, though it circulated in the community as a possible explanation for how the campaign was structured.

The rollout also ran into technical complaints. Some users said USDC deposits did not arrive. Others reported that the deposit address changed after a page refresh, or that no reward was received after the required trade was completed. Participation was also restricted in some countries, so the campaign was not available to all users globally.

World had already been operating through Phantom

World entered public view before this standalone debut. On June 30, Foresight News published a report titled “World appeared in Phantom prediction market disclosures before formally introducing itself.” At that point, World had not yet launched live functions, but it had already shown up in Phantom’s prediction market disclosure materials.

Its settlement system is built entirely around CASH. Phantom designed CASH as a dollar stablecoin for everyday use, pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar and issued through Bridge and Stripe’s Open Issuance platform. World’s contracts are presented in binary yes-or-no format, and both opening positions and settlement are handled in CASH. On the front end, users can swap USDC or SOL into CASH before trading, and profits, rewards, and position-close proceeds are all paid out in CASH.

That setup means every transaction on World creates a use case for Phantom’s stablecoin rather than relying on outside settlement assets such as USDC.

How Phantom, World, and Chainlink split the work

Phantom’s role goes beyond wallet connectivity. According to information on Phantom’s disclosure page, starting June 1, 2026, newly opened prediction positions inside Phantom have been provided by world Prediction Markets. Before that, the same entry point ran through Kalshi and DFlow.

By first appearing inside Phantom, World effectively plugged into the existing traffic of one of Solana’s largest consumer-facing wallets. The source report described that distribution advantage as a key reason World was able to build a base of more than 50,000 unique predictors in a short period.

After the standalone launch, the arrangement ran on two parallel tracks. Phantom handled the front end, wallet access, Cash accounts, and user distribution. World supplied the market protocol, order routing, and settlement logic. Chainlink provided high-speed market data and automated settlement through Data Streams and CRE, replacing more traditional approaches such as manual review or token-holder voting.

World still trails larger prediction platforms

Dune data shows World at about $31 million in total prediction trading volume and roughly 53,600 unique predictors. That remains well below larger rivals. Dune data cited in the source report shows Polymarket recorded about $2.34 billion in total trading volume for the week of Aug. 17, while active addresses in July were around 573,000.

Against that backdrop, World chose direct first-trade rewards instead of points or an airdrop to acquire users. Requiring an X account can help identify real users, filter out bots, and extend reach through social sharing. If the community theory linking rewards to follower count is accurate, it would suggest World is trying to attract users with some degree of influence rather than simply maximize wallet addresses. According to official information cited in the report, World currently has no points program and has not announced any token issuance plan.

Two goals: Phantom user growth and broader CASH circulation

From the perspective of the Solana ecosystem, the campaign serves two goals at once: bringing new users into Phantom and expanding circulation for CASH.

CoinMarketCap data cited in the report shows CASH with a market capitalization of about $125 million, compared with $188.38 billion for USDT and $74.31 billion for USDC. Every trade and every reward payout on World adds to real usage demand for CASH, while Phantom’s user base provides a potential distribution network for the stablecoin.

Whether World can keep users after the trading reward campaign ends, and turn first-time traders into long-term users, remains to be seen.
