The foundation identified four systemic risks that must be addressed as priorities. First, MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) abuse, where miners or validators reorder, insert, or censor transactions to extract additional profit, undermining transaction fairness. Second, staking centralization, where large amounts of ETH are concentrated under a few entities or platforms, weakening the network's decentralization. Third, privacy erosion, where on-chain transparency exposes user identities and behavior patterns, contradicting the promise of privacy-first design. Fourth, opaque transaction pipelines, where information asymmetry between users and dApps can lead to fund loss or improper actions. Without mitigation, these risks will erode Ethereum's trust foundation.
Advancing Four Long-term Tech Opportunities
Concurrently, the foundation is driving four long-term technological opportunities. First, quantum-resistant cryptography to prepare Ethereum for future quantum computing threats. Second, self-sovereign verifiable protocol stacks enabling users to independently verify on-chain data and execution without relying on third parties. Third, secure scaling solutions to significantly increase transaction throughput while preserving decentralization and security. Fourth, sovereign digital cash—asset forms fully controlled by users, free from any institutional interference.
