According to ChainCatcher, Grayscale research head Zach Pandl commented on X in response to recent community criticism of the Ethereum Foundation and discussions around a reported funding-crisis narrative. Pandl said that, over the long term, the organizational changes currently taking place at the Ethereum Foundation are positive for Ethereum.
His first point focused on the distribution of development work. Pandl said that more development activity will be transferred to commercial organizations, reducing the development responsibilities carried directly by the Ethereum Foundation. In his view, more work being driven by commercial institutions can improve the overall efficiency of the Ethereum ecosystem.
This argument centers on a clearer division of responsibilities inside the ecosystem. The foundation is not described as withdrawing from its long-term role; rather, Pandl framed the adjustment as a way for the foundation to carry a more focused mandate while commercial organizations take on more of the practical development work.
Pandl’s second point concerned Ethereum’s core principles as digital-currency infrastructure. He said the structural adjustment helps preserve Ethereum’s foundational role. A foundation with clearer responsibilities and a narrower scope, in his view, is better positioned to ensure that Ethereum continues to follow the “CROPS” principles needed to build sound digital money.
Under that framework, if the Ethereum Foundation reduces its direct participation in ecosystem development and focuses instead on maintaining Ethereum’s long-term core objectives, it can help strengthen ETH’s position as decentralized digital-asset infrastructure. Pandl’s remarks directly addressed the community debate over the foundation’s role, its development responsibilities, and Ethereum’s long-term direction.
