Zcash founder Zooko Wilcox said a security audit of the Zcash protocol commissioned by Shielded Labs and conducted with Anthropic’s Mythos AI model found no new critical vulnerabilities. The review followed an earlier discovery by Taylor Hornby, who used Claude Opus 4.8 to identify a four-year-old forgery flaw in the Orchard shielded pool.

According to TechFlow, citing Cointelegraph on June 13, Zcash founder Zooko Wilcox said that a security audit of the Zcash protocol commissioned by Shielded Labs and carried out with Anthropic’s Mythos AI model did not uncover any new critical vulnerabilities. The audit focused on the security of the Zcash protocol and, based on Wilcox’s statement, did not identify additional severe issues.

Earlier Orchard issue was fixed on June 3

The review followed an earlier finding by security researcher Taylor Hornby, who used Claude Opus 4.8 to discover a forgery vulnerability in the Orchard shielded pool. The flaw had existed for four years before it was identified. In response, developers urgently paused Orchard transactions on June 3 and completed a fix on the same day.

The Zcash Foundation confirmed that there was no evidence the vulnerability had ever been exploited, and that user privacy was not affected. The latest audit using Anthropic’s Mythos AI model therefore adds another check of the Zcash protocol’s security status, with no new critical vulnerability reported in this review.
