Apple2026-10-20 14:09:11Apple sets up to $100 million Pennsylvania titanium supply deal for iPhone Duo under AMPApple said on Oct. 20 it will commit up to $100 million over the next three years to Perryman Company, a family-owned titanium producer in Pennsylvania, through its American Manufacturing Program, or AMP. The company said Perryman will supply titanium for products including the iPhone Duo, while Apple also announced an expanded partnership with Qnity Electronics to make advanced thin films for the variable-aperture camera in the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple’s release said the titanium used in the iPhone Duo will contain at least 80% recycled content. The announcement comes as U.S. titanium sponge supply remains fully import-dependent. According to the U.S. Geological Survey’s 2026 Mineral Commodity Summaries, the last U.S. titanium sponge plant closed in 2024, domestic output in 2025 was zero, and net import reliance reached 100%, with imports at about 44,000 metric tons. Apple has been widening its U.S. manufacturing commitments under AMP, including $2.5 billion with Corning, $500 million with MP Materials, and a Broadcom agreement expected to exceed $30 billion. Apple did not say whether the Perryman arrangement will improve near-term iPhone Duo output, even as CNBC cited Morgan Stanley saying some models showed roughly 14-week online delivery times on the first day of preorders.500
Amp2026-10-10 09:32:15Amp adds Claude subscription access through a new Claude Code modeAmp, an AI coding tool, said it now supports Claude Pro and Claude Max subscriptions and is opening the integration to all users at no extra charge. To use it, users start a new task in "Claude Code" mode and link their Claude account. Usage is then counted against their existing Claude subscription limits, so there is no need to buy separate model credits from Amp. The new mode runs the official Claude Code through the Claude Agent SDK while keeping Amp’s existing features, including cloud computers, task sharing, multi-user collaboration and agent orchestration. Amp also said only the Claude Code mode can use a Claude subscription. Its existing Medium, High and Ultra modes are excluded. On pricing, local runs remain free, while Amp’s cloud computer still requires payment. The update also comes against a policy backdrop at Anthropic. The company had previously restricted third-party tools from using Claude subscriptions, paused that policy change in June this year, and confirmed again in October that third-party apps can still use subscription quotas. Its developer documentation, however, still says third-party products must obtain prior approval if they offer Claude login or subscription quota access.450
Amp2026-09-13 11:40:32Amp launches free Hobby tier for Coding Agent users with their own ChatGPT accessAmp has introduced a free Hobby tier that lets users run its coding agent on their own computers by connecting either a personal ChatGPT subscription or a model API key. The move removes two charges that had applied under Amp’s subscription model: the need to pay for at least the $20-per-month Megawatt plan to use a personal ChatGPT subscription inside Amp, and extra BYOK token fees and limits even when users supplied their own model key. Amp said users still need to cover the underlying ChatGPT subscription cost or any API model charges themselves. The company, which was spun out of Sourcegraph, builds a coding agent product in the same category as Claude Code and Codex, with capabilities that include reading code, editing it, running commands and testing. Amp also said Orb, its remote cloud computer product that provides a separate environment for each task, will continue to be billed based on usage, while broader BYOK support is being expanded from paid users to all users over time.1420
