Orionx suspends withdrawals and begins wind-down after alleged transfers of more than $7 million

Chilean crypto exchange Orionx has suspended customer withdrawals and started a definitive wind-down after saying a forensic audit found that more than $7 million in custodied assets had been transferred to wallets outside the company’s control. The shutdown has left customers unable to withdraw while the company begins what it describes as a restitution process. Chile’s Commission for the Financial Market, or CMF, said it does not supervise Orionx’s closure and has no authority to order the return of customer funds because the exchange is neither registered nor authorized by the regulator. CMF also said it had rejected Orionx’s registration and authorization request under Chile’s Fintech Law on June 19, adding that after the rejection the company could only conclude existing operations and could not start new ones. Orionx said it filed a report with Chile’s Public Prosecutor’s Office and submitted a criminal complaint dated Sept. 2 against former executives. Local outlet La Tercera, citing the complaint, named former general manager Roberto Zibert and former technology manager Joaquín Díaz. Cointelegraph reported that both men denied the allegations. The exchange’s status page says restitution is still in its first of five stages and does not guarantee full recovery of customer assets.

Chilean exchange Orionx halts operations and withdrawals after audit finds over $7 million shortfall

Chilean cryptocurrency exchange Orionx has stopped operating and frozen user withdrawals after a forensic audit found that more than $7 million in custodial assets had been moved to wallets outside the company’s control, creating a funding gap. Orionx said it has filed a complaint with Chile’s national prosecutor, accusing founding partners Joaquín Díaz and Roberto Zibert, along with other former employees, of taking part in the transactions. The complaint says the transfers took place between 2018 and 2021. Chile’s Financial Market Commission, or CMF, said Orionx was not authorized to provide cryptocurrency financial services and that its operations did not comply with the country’s Fintech Law. The exchange also said it cannot guarantee that users will recover all of their funds. Bitcoin.com News was cited as the source in the original report.

XRP extends losing streak to six days, breaking below the psychological $2 level with an 11% weekly drop. US XRP ETFs saw $53.3M net outflows, ending a seven-day inflow streak. MACD bearish crossover and CMF near negative suggest a test of December low at $1.77, though RWA tokenization and stablecoin growth offer counterbalance.
