NFA clears Polymarket unit for FCM registration, with CFTC approval still pending

The National Futures Association has approved PM Derivatives LLC, a subsidiary of Polymarket, to operate as a futures commission merchant, according to ChainCatcher. An NFA spokesperson said the unit has met all requirements for FCM registration, but it still cannot begin futures brokerage operations without approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. If that approval is granted, PM Derivatives would be able to act as an intermediary that accepts customer orders and funds. Polymarket said the subsidiary plans to use a fully collateralized model, requiring customers to post sufficient funds for their entire positions at the time of execution. The CFTC is still investigating Polymarket.

CFTC Launches Pilot Program Allowing Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDC as Collateral in Derivatives Markets

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has announced a digital assets pilot program that permits Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the stablecoin USDC to be used as collateral in regulated derivatives markets. The initiative includes guidance on tokenized collateral, a no-action framework for futures commission merchants (FCMs), and the withdrawal of Staff Advisory No. 20-34, which previously restricted virtual currency holdings. Acting CFTC Chair Caroline Pham stated the program aims to expand digital asset use while maintaining oversight and customer protections. Industry leaders from Coinbase, Circle, and Crypto.com welcomed the move, citing reduced settlement risk and enhanced regulatory clarity.
