Ampleforth hit by governance proposal attack as 2.5 million USDC transfer request remains pending

A security alert from the GoPlus Chinese community said an attack proposal was submitted to Ampleforth on Sept. 12 by a newly activated externally owned account, or EOA. The proposal asked for 2.5 million USDC from the protocol treasury, describing the payment as compensation for completed work on the SPOT ecosystem analytics tool. According to the alert, that amount accounts for nearly all of the treasury’s liquid funds. As of publication, the proposal was still in pending status, no votes had been cast, and no funds had moved. GoPlus said the proposal threshold is 75,000 FORTH and the passage threshold is 600,000 FORTH. Based on a FORTH price of $0.27 at the time of the warning, roughly $160,000 would be enough to assemble the votes needed for approval. The proposer or recipient address currently holds about 87,200 FORTH voting power, while a delegating address held about the same amount and delegated that voting power to the proposer 19 minutes before the proposal was submitted.

Defimon flags suspected malicious Ampleforth governance proposal tied to 2.5 million USDC

Defimon Alerts said it detected what appears to be a malicious governance proposal on Ampleforth, centered on roughly 2.5 million USDC from the protocol treasury. The proposal, labeled as a grant for 「SPOT completed work」, would send funds to the proposer’s address. The amount is close to the full 2.538 million USDC held by the timelock contract. According to the disclosure cited by Defimon, the proposer said they wrote the proposal and would vote for it through a delegate holding only 87,238 FORTH, or about 0.57% of supply. That would narrowly clear the 75,000-vote threshold. Based on a FORTH price of $0.22, Defimon estimated the attack cost at about $132,000. The alert focuses on the proposal mechanics, the treasury exposure, and the relatively low token cost needed to reach the required voting threshold.
