Saudi Arabia2026-10-12 12:21:11Saudi Arabia plans to raise overland oil export capacity bypassing Hormuz to 10 million barrels a daySaudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman said the kingdom plans to increase its overland crude transport capacity that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz to 10 million barrels per day within the next two to three years. The move is aimed at reducing reliance on Gulf shipping routes. Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, which links eastern oil fields to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, is currently designed to carry 7 million barrels per day. As of early October, actual throughput had risen to 5.8 million barrels per day, with about 4.5 million barrels exported and the rest supplied to western refineries. Saudi Arabia is also upgrading pump stations along the route and studying temporary conversion of existing gas pipelines for crude transport. Those adjustments could add about 1.2 million barrels per day, with potential capacity rising to 3 million barrels per day if more investment is made in pump stations and compressors. The kingdom is also evaluating dual-use oil and gas pipeline options to switch transport use based on geopolitical risks and seasonal demand.00

He expects it to become an ordinary body of water within two years, with more than 50%, or even 70%, of the energy currently shipped through the strait shifting to underground pipelines. (Jinshi)1910
