ASIC Shuts Down Yepbit Websites, Warns Users Not to Trade

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has closed multiple websites operated by digital asset platform Yepbit, and has issued a warning to users not to trade with the platform. The regulator said it had received reports from a number of investors who found themselves unable to withdraw funds from the platform. Yepbit has claimed that it provides digital asset and futures trading services on a global scale, with those services also being offered to Australian investors. ASIC, for its part, has said that Yepbit made up a claim that 'ASIC froze funds' in order to put off investor requests for refunds. The platform does not hold a financial services licence in Australia, and it is not registered with AUSTRAC as a virtual asset service provider. ASIC has reminded investors that they should verify whether a platform holds the appropriate licence before using it, and that any investment opportunity which cannot be verified should be approached with extreme caution.

Hong Kong startup Vina Intelligence lands Nature Communications paper on AI-assisted kidney cancer surgery decisions

Vina Intelligence, a Hong Kong startup focused on synthetic reasoning and Q&A data for large models, has come into the spotlight after a paper on AI-assisted decision-making in kidney cancer surgery was published in Nature Communications. According to the report, the publication made Vina Intelligence the first Chinese data-generation technology company and the fourth worldwide to appear in a major Nature journal with an impact factor above 10 over the past three years. The paper addressed a long-standing clinical question in renal cancer treatment: how to make more quantitative decisions between partial nephrectomy and radical nephrectomy. The team proposed an RDPM model that put 3D imaging and clinical variables into the same prediction framework, training and validating it on a cohort of 1,621 patients. In external multi-center testing, the model recorded an AUC range of 0.788 to 0.873. The study predicted long-term renal function decline risk and aimed to provide measurable support for surgery decisions that have often depended heavily on physician experience. The report also traces founder Liu Qifeng’s path from academic and AI infrastructure work in Hong Kong to launching the company in July 2024, then raising a HK$50 million seed round led by Lenovo Capital, as Vina Intelligence pushes its thesis that AI systems need to learn how to ask better questions, not just produce answers.

Lao Bai says crypto VC will fade, prediction markets are overvalued, and Perp DEXs still have room beyond Hyperliquid

In a nearly two-hour conversation hosted by 168X, investor and researcher Lao Bai laid out a broad thesis on where crypto stands in 2026 and where it may be headed next. His core view is blunt: the crypto industry has matured, token issuance works more like debt than financing, and the label "crypto VC" is likely to disappear over time as blockchain becomes part of the broader commercial stack rather than a standalone sector. Lao Bai, whose past roles include Amber, ABCDE and OKX Ventures, said his focus inside crypto has narrowed to a handful of sectors he still sees as having product-market fit: perpetuals, prediction markets, real-world assets and stablecoins. Even there, he drew sharp distinctions. Stablecoins and perpetual contracts, he argued, are crypto’s two strongest native inventions. Prediction markets, by contrast, do have real PMF but a much lower ceiling than perpetual trading. He also discussed Hyperliquid’s lead in Perp DEXs, the competitive setup around HIP-3 deployers such as TradeXYZ and Paragon, why security issues often stem from lending rather than pure perpetual products, and why exchanges are increasingly competing not just with Binance or OKX but with Robinhood, Interactive Brokers and even banks. His conclusion was equally direct: the endgame for exchanges is to become a single global gateway for risk assets.

Australia Suspends Largest Crypto ATM Operator as AUSTRAC Signals Broader Enforcement Push

Australia’s financial-crime regulator has suspended the registration of Cryptolink Pty Ltd, the country’s largest Bitcoin and crypto ATM operator, in a move that points to wider scrutiny of the sector. The Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre, or AUSTRAC, said the company’s Virtual Asset Service Provider registration will be suspended for three months from August 9 after it failed to keep up with anti-money-laundering reporting requirements. According to AUSTRAC, the company met the terms of an earlier enforceable undertaking but later failed to satisfy basic reporting duties, especially threshold transaction reports for cash transfers above a set limit, and did not respond to requests for information. The regulator said that left the business too risky to keep operating for now. The action comes even after Cryptolink paid a $56,340 fine in October 2025. AUSTRAC data shows Australia now has roughly 1,800 crypto ATMs, up from 23 in 2019, the highest count in the Asia-Pacific region. The Australian Federal Police has said about $275 million flows through the country’s Bitcoin and crypto ATMs each year.

AUSTRAC Suspends Cryptolink's VASP Registration for 3 Months, Halting Bitcoin ATMs

Australia's financial intelligence agency AUSTRAC has suspended Cryptolink's VASP registration for three months starting Sunday, forcing the digital asset ATM operator to halt its bitcoin ATM operations. The regulator said Cryptolink failed to meet basic reporting obligations, including submitting threshold transaction reports and responding to information requests. The suspension follows a court-enforceable undertaking signed in October 2025 and a A$56,300 penalty notice earlier issued for late reporting and inadequate risk assessments. Cryptolink operates 96 ATMs across Australia, mostly in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
