Light opens preorders for $299 flip phone with no browser, no social apps and no AI

Light, a minimalist phone maker based in New York, launched the $299 Light Flip on July 21 as a flip phone built around deliberate limits rather than added features. The device comes with a 2.8-inch OLED display, a physical T9 keypad, 5G support and LightOS, the company’s stripped-down Android-based system. What stands out is what it does not include: no browser, no email, no Instagram, no TikTok, no X and no AI features. Co-founder Kaiwei Tang said the phone is aimed at people who stand "in opposition to all this AI laziness and the smartphones tech companies keep pushing." The hardware is relatively full for a minimalist device, with a MediaTek MT8873 chip, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a replaceable 1,800mAh battery, dual SIM support through nano SIM and eSIM, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C, a 3.5mm headphone jack and IP54 dust and water resistance. The phone also reflects a broader reaction against the direction of the consumer tech industry, where AI tools are being added across search, photos and text input. Light’s pitch is not a software switch or a focus mode, but a separate device that replaces the smartphone itself.

Plasma One pushes beyond payments, putting XPL at the center of a stablecoin account model

Plasma One is being positioned less as a standalone stablecoin payment tool and more as a global stablecoin account product built around spending, transfers, yield, and tiered membership. According to information cited from Plasma’s website and documentation, the product combines a Visa card issued by Rain, account services supported by Bridge, zero-fee USDT transfers through Plasma routing, and an Earn vault tied to Aave’s USDT0 market. The structure is designed to let users hold dollar stablecoin balances, spend them, move funds across borders, and earn yield from the same interface. A central part of the model is XPL. Cashback is paid in XPL, membership upgrades can require locking XPL, and the token also serves as the native asset of the Plasma blockchain. Plasma One currently shows three membership tiers — Lite, Core, and Platinum — with different cashback rates, referral rewards, virtual card allocations, AI subscription perks, and travel benefits. Core can be unlocked through a $199 annual subscription or by locking 20,000 XPL for 12 months, while Platinum requires locking 100,000 XPL for 12 months. At the network layer, Plasma describes itself as a payments-focused Layer 1 for stablecoins, with a 1-second block time, 3-second deterministic finality, zero network transfer fees, EVM compatibility, and a Fast HotStuff-based consensus design. In WuBlockchain’s framing, Plasma One is the flagship account product that turns those network capabilities into consumer-facing financial use cases.
