AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze has undergone hip surgery in London, the club confirmed on Wednesday. Reports in Italy say he is not expected back in action before three months.
Club statement on the operation
"AC Milan confirms that Samuel Chukwueze has undergone surgery in London to repair a ruptured tendon of the tensor fasciae latae muscle in his left hip," the club said in a statement.
"The operation, performed by Professor Ernest Schilders with Dr. Stefano Mazzoni in attendance, was successful," the club said in a statement.
"Chukwueze will return to Italy today, where he will begin his rehabilitation," the club said in a statement.
How the injury developed
Chukwueze was substituted off during a Serie A match against Atalanta on October 18. Milan's medical staff initially opted for conservative therapy, but surgery was required after a few weeks.
Milan had not unveiled Chukwueze's recovery time.
Italian reports on recovery time
According to several Italian sources, Chukwueze will not return to action before three months. Corriere dello Sport reports that Chukwueze will be sidelined for at least three months.
Other Italian sources including Gazzetta claim Ruben Amorim might be without Chukwueze until springtime. This could mean Chukwueze remains out of action for up to five months.
Football Italia on his season
Football Italia wrote that Chukwueze returned from a one-season loan spell at Fulham this summer. Football Italia wrote that Chukwueze had become a regular Milan starter under Ruben Amorim, with two assists in eight appearances across all competitions.
