Luis Enrique protested a refereeing decision during Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League match with Villarreal, with the incident coming in the 74th minute of a game PSG went on to win 6-0. After the match, the Paris Saint-Germain manager said what happened regarding the three substitutions was “a farce”.
The 74th-minute incident
Paris Saint-Germain were 5-0 up when the incident happened. Luis Enrique made a triple substitution, taking off Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha and Désiré Doué and sending on David Boly, Lucas Beraldo and Quentin Ndjantou.
GOAL, citing Marca, said Hakimi and Vitinha did not leave the pitch inside the allotted time, so the referee did not allow all three replacements to come on at once. GOAL said that left Paris Saint-Germain a man down.
Enrique's reaction on the touchline
GOAL, citing Marca, said Luis Enrique tried to shove one of his substitutes onto the pitch, the player was shown a yellow card, and the referee let play continue.
Enrique said after the match: “What happened regarding the three substitutions was a farce. Imagine if the score were 0-0, then they take three players off you, and after that I push one of them on and he gets a yellow card, I would have pushed the other players on too! What is this? Are we playing a children's game?”
Enrique added
“We have to respect the professionals too, just as we respect the refereeing team,” he added.
The rule cited by GOAL
GOAL said a substituted player must leave the pitch within 10 seconds of the referee's signal or the raising of the substitution board under a new amendment to the laws of the game approved by the International Football Association Board.
GOAL said that if a substituted player goes over that time limit, the player still has to come off, but the substitute cannot enter until the first stoppage in play once a full minute has elapsed since the restart, and only with the referee's permission.
David Boly scored the sixth goal in the 78th minute.
