Manchester United and Aston Villa fans clashed over suggestions that Unai Emery could leave his post to take the job at Old Trafford if Michael Carrick is sacked. Carrick's Manchester United are 16th in the Premier League and have lost their last two Champions League games.
Fans trade responses on X
Dan Bardell, described as a Villa fan and broadcaster, responded on X to a suggestion from Jamie Carragher that Emery would want the opportunity to manage a "giant" club. He wrote: "Currently has more chance of winning the #UCL at #AVFC with what we have, compared to that mess in Manchester. We aren’t talking about Barca or Real Madrid here."
A United fan responded: "The arrogance of Villa fans is becoming quite extraordinary. A few decent seasons and suddenly you’re lecturing Manchester United about ambition and European success."
Another United fan wrote: "Emery is an excellent manager, but the idea that managing Villa represents the pinnacle of his career is laughable. Enjoy your moment, but try not to confuse a good spell with becoming a footballing giant."
One more United fan added: "Man United is a massive step up from Aston Villa. The end."
