According to a study released in July 2021 by Finder, a leading product comparison website, a panel of 42 cryptocurrency experts has issued a comprehensive forecast for Bitcoin's price trajectory. The panel includes crypto asset managers, exchange executives, analysts, and university professors, reflecting a broad spectrum of industry insights.

Year-End 2021 Forecast: Majority See Undervaluation

61% of the panelists believe Bitcoin is currently undervalued, with an average year-end 2021 price prediction of $66,284. The most bullish expert, Morpher CEO Martin Fröhler, predicts Bitcoin will hit $160,000 by the end of 2021, arguing that “adoption by corporations and institutional investors paired with a loose monetary policy and high asset inflation will propel bitcoin to six figures before the end of this year.”

Long-Term Outlook: 2025 and 2030

The panel holds a strongly bullish view on Bitcoin's medium- to long-term prospects. Finder stated: “While there may be some medium term price depreciation, the panel predicts that by December 2025, the price of BTC will go up to $318,417.” This represents a 61% increase from the panel’s December 2020 forecast for 2025, but 12% lower than the April 2021 estimate. For 2030, the average price prediction stands at an astonishing $4,287,591; however, the median forecast is $470,000, indicating that outliers heavily skew the average.

Justin Chuh, senior trader at Wave Financial, offered a more conservative year-end prediction of $56,000 but still expressed confidence in Bitcoin as “the tried-and-true safe haven” of digital assets. He expects BTC to reach $210,000 by 2025 and $400,000 by 2030, driven by halving events and inflation: “Halving events and inflation along the way to 2025 and 2030 will likely trigger the larger upside moves. Prices are likely to be continuously driven by supply and demand, less availability for a wider group of users.”

Hyperbitcoinization Timeline

The study also surveyed experts on when they expect hyperbitcoinization—the moment when Bitcoin overtakes global finance—to occur. Results show that 54% of the panel thinks hyperbitcoinization will happen by 2050. Among them, 29% believe it will happen as soon as 2035, and an additional 20% by 2040. This indicates that despite short-term volatility, a majority of experts are confident in Bitcoin's eventual dominance over traditional financial systems.

Bearish Perspectives and Risks

Not all panelists share the optimistic outlook. John Hawkins, senior lecturer at the University of Canberra, is among the most bearish, predicting a year-end price of just $20,000. He argues that “countries adopting bitcoin will actually have a negative impact on its price.” Other panelists cautioned that short-term corrections, regulatory changes, and market sentiment could alter the trajectory. Finder researchers noted that median predictions provide a more balanced view of consensus than averages skewed by extreme outliers.

The expert panel includes representatives from Galia Digital, Allnodes, Wave Financial, Morpher, Cryptocompare, Coinsmart, Banz Capital, Arcane Crypto, Celsius Network, Coingecko, Token Metrics, Thomson Reuters, Morgan Creek Digital, and several universities. Overall, the survey underscores strong long-term confidence in Bitcoin among industry experts, while highlighting the range of opinions on timing and magnitude of price movements.
