Alibaba's Qwen team has released Qwen3.8-Max-0902, an upgraded version of its flagship model just one month after the original launch. Parameter count stays at 2.4T with 1M token context. The update focuses on coding and agent capabilities, with all 8 coding benchmarks showing improvement. The new model surpasses Claude Opus 5 in MLS-Bench-Lite, SWE-Atlas QnA, and QwenSWEbench V2. Multimodal scores increased modestly by 0.4-3 points. The API is now available at unchanged pricing: $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens.
Alibaba’s Qwen team has released an upgraded flagship model: Qwen3.8-Max-0902. The launch comes just one month after the original. Same scale. The model still has 2.4T parameters and a 1 million token context window. The real change is in post-training for coding and coworking, with the update aimed at programming, complex workflows, and long-running agent tasks.
All Eight Coding Benchmarks Improved
Alibaba’s internal benchmarks show the 0902 version beating the original in all eight coding tests. TerminalBench 3.0 climbed from 11.3 to 29.0. DeepSWE 1.1 rose from 56.6 to 69.3, while QwenSWEbench V2 moved from 55.1 to 70.0. JobBench, the professional task benchmark, went from 53.4 to 64.0. But Claude Opus 5 remains ahead on most coding tasks. The 0902 model does beat it in three areas: MLS-Bench-Lite, SWE-Atlas QnA, and QwenSWEbench V2.
Modest Multimodal Gains, Strong Agent Focus
Multimodal scores moved up by just 0.4 to 3 points. That tells the story: this upgrade is mainly about coding and difficult task handling by agents. Every result comes from Alibaba’s own testing. No independent verification has been completed yet.
API Availability and Pricing
Qwen3.8-Max-0902 is now available through the QwenCloud API. Pricing is unchanged: $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens.
