Anthropic has introduced a built-in plugin for Claude Code called "You should know," adding a second layer of review to the coding assistant’s output so users can catch details they may have missed.
The company’s developer account, ClaudeDevs, said on X on Oct. 2 that the plugin scans Claude’s responses and surfaces important information that may otherwise go unnoticed, giving users a clearer view of what is happening during a session.
A second agent watches the conversation
According to the official Claude Code update log, "You should know" was added in version 2.1.287 as a built-in mod. The feature works by assigning another agent to observe the conversation and point out things that either the user or Claude may have missed.
In the next release, version 2.1.288, Anthropic also revised the wording used in those reminders. The phrasing now changes depending on who made the decision, using "we," "main agent," or "you."
Users can turn on the plugin in Claude Code with the following command:
- /plugin enable cc-plugin-you-should-know@builtin
The update log says the feature is limited to sessions that use Anthropic directly, not through third-party cloud platforms, and only when telemetry data sharing is enabled.
Claude Mods also arrived in version 2.1.287
The same 2.1.287 release introduced Claude Mods, a system that allows plugins to change deeper layers of Claude Code’s behavior. "You should know" is presented as a built-in example created with that mechanism.
Thariq, an engineer on Anthropic’s Claude Code team, said on X: "You should know is great for understanding what Claude can do, and it’s also a good example of what mods can enable. You really can make Claude Code your own."
