Bank of Ghana Stanbic and Hong Kong fintech firm RD Technologies said they are working together to explore a bank-led cross-border trade settlement model supported by stablecoin technology. The initial focus is on business-to-business trade payments from Ghanaian companies to suppliers in Asia. Under the proposed structure, Bank of Ghana Stanbic would remain the customer-facing bank and handle client onboarding, compliance oversight, and local-currency settlement. RD Technologies would provide payment technology, digital asset infrastructure, and access to an Asian settlement network. The two sides said they plan to set up a project team for technical testing and the design of a controlled pilot, subject to obtaining the required regulatory non-objection.
