Bitcoin (BTC) smashed through the $31,000 barrier on Saturday morning (EST), reaching a new all-time high of $31,417 per coin. The price surge came with roughly $12 billion in global trade volume. By the time of publication, BTC was trading at $31,200.

Market Metrics and Network Data

Bitcoin’s performance over various timeframes was remarkable: up 5% in the last 24 hours, 15% over the week, 58% in the past month, and 187% over the 90-day period. Against the U.S. dollar, BTC gained 315% over the past 12 months. The network’s hashrate hovered around 135 exahash per second, with 18 mining pools contributing. F2pool led with 18% of the total hashrate (26.31 EH/s).

Community Sentiment and Institutional Interest

Cryptocurrency enthusiasts celebrated the milestone. Holger Zschaepitz noted that Bitcoin took only 17 days to jump from $20,000 to $30,000. Phil Geiger warned retail investors not to sell their sats to mega-institutional investors at $30,000, predicting those institutions would gladly pay $200,000 per Bitcoin later. On-chain analyst Willy Woo urged long-term holders not to stress over entry prices, stating, “The main bull phase is here. Capital inflows have gone nuts. If you’re looking for an entry to HODL Bitcoin long term, don’t nickel and dime an entry. You won’t sweat a few thousand dollars of non-perfect entry when it’s $100k, $200k, $300k in a year.”

Pullback Risks on the Horizon

Despite the euphoria, some analysts cautioned about an impending correction. During the 2017 bull run, Bitcoin experienced four major drawdowns of 25% to 38%. Trader Mr. Anderson pointed out that the monthly momentum indicator recently reached levels last seen before a 38% retracement. However, he emphasized that this observation is not actionable alone and should be combined with other signals.

Overall Market Valuation

The total market capitalization of all 7,500+ digital assets stood near $800 billion, approaching the $1 trillion mark. Bitcoin alone accounted for $573 billion, or roughly 71% of the entire crypto market economy.
