Coinbase has signed a new office lease in San Francisco’s Mission Rock development, marking a return to the city three years after the crypto exchange stepped away from a traditional headquarters model.
The company has taken space at 1090 Dr. Maya Angelou Lane, leasing about 150,000 square feet and occupying more than half of Building B. The development was built by Tishman Speyer in partnership with the San Francisco Giants.
A Major Physical Expansion in the Bay Area
The new office will become Coinbase’s largest single location, signaling a renewed commitment to maintaining a significant physical presence in San Francisco. While the company previously emphasized a more distributed workplace structure, this lease suggests the city remains strategically important to its long-term footprint.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie welcomed the move, saying the city remains a strong place for companies to grow. Coinbase’s return is likely to be seen as a notable sign for both the local tech sector and the broader crypto industry.
Post-Headquarters Strategy Evolves
Coinbase’s decision does not necessarily reverse its earlier workplace shift, but it does show how the company may be recalibrating the balance between remote operations and in-person collaboration. For now, the disclosed details focus on the location, scale, and significance of the lease, with no further information provided on staffing plans or a timeline for occupancy.
