Ether funding rates stayed positive for an extended period, signaling long dominance in the derivatives market. Yet price failed to rally consistently during that time, proving that a positive funding rate alone does not guarantee upward movement. Recently, the rate turned sharply negative, showing a deep red spike as shorts piled on. The price came under clear downward pressure, confirming that bearish leverage had taken control.
Binance's data is especially important here. It commands the largest share of global derivatives liquidity and the highest leveraged trading volume. Liquidation cascades often start on Binance and then ripple across the market. For ETH, Binance's funding rate serves as a key gauge of risk appetite and leverage direction, directly influencing near-term momentum.
Now the funding rate has swung back positive. This suggests that most short positions have been liquidated and market is tilting toward positive leverage again, with long traders once more paying the fee. The return of positive funding signals that aggressive downside pressure is easing, creating room for price stabilization or a short-term bounce.
Positive Rate Not Enough for New Uptrend
A positive funding rate alone cannot confirm a new bullish trend. For a sustainable rally, the rate must stay at moderate levels. If it becomes too high, the risk shifts to a potential long squeeze. Unless prices decisively break above the $2,500 resistance level, it remains premature to conclude that the broader trend has flipped fully bullish.
