The European Commission has passed a delegated act that would extend the Central Contact Point, or CCP, framework to crypto-asset service providers, according to AML Intelligence. The change would give regulators in EU member states the authority to require crypto exchanges and other firms operating locally to appoint a domestic contact person. The CCP framework previously applied only to electronic money institutions and payment institutions. Under the revised scope, crypto service providers would be brought into the EU’s anti-money laundering and compliance network. The aim, as described in the report, is to give authorities a fixed local point of contact within their jurisdiction while improving the flow of information and coordination in enforcement. The move places crypto firms within a structure already used in other parts of the financial sector, adding another layer of local compliance obligations for companies serving EU markets.
