GoPlus Security published its monthly security report for August 2026, and it logged 33 major Web3 security incidents. Total losses came in at about $188.1 million. That was down 41% from July’s $319 million, but still more than twice June’s $77.98 million.
Most of the incidents — 28 of 33 — were exploit-driven attacks, and they made up $162.3 million in losses. The biggest single case was the price manipulation and over-lending attack on Tectonic, which caused $75 million in losses. Just the top five incidents were responsible for $141.5 million, or 75.2% of the total. In July, that figure was 73.5%.
Looking at categories, price manipulation and oracle attacks were first with $83.2 million. Private key leaks and wallet thefts came next at $39.1 million. Then came underlying chain and ecosystem vulnerabilities at $25.8 million. Together, those three categories made up 79% of all losses in August.
