The perpetual decentralized exchange market appears to be entering a wait-and-see phase. According to DefiLlama data, overall trading activity has softened, yet leveraged capital has not left in a meaningful way. That dynamic has pushed Hyperliquid’s open interest to its highest level in nearly a month, highlighting a growing gap between trading volume and capital still committed to open positions.
Hyperliquid Remains the Clear Market Leader
Among Perp DEX platforms, Hyperliquid continues to dominate by both activity and positioning. The platform posted roughly $6.48 billion in 24-hour trading volume and about $6.41 billion in open interest. When open interest stays elevated while turnover weakens, it often suggests traders are holding directional bets rather than actively rotating capital, waiting for a stronger market signal before adjusting exposure.
Other Major Platforms Still Show Meaningful Scale
Several other perpetual DEXs also remain active. Aster recorded around $2.43 billion in daily volume and $1.94 billion in open interest. EdgeX followed with about $1.96 billion in trading volume and $1.08 billion in open interest. Lighter posted roughly $1.86 billion in volume and $676 million in open interest, while Grvt saw around $1.5 billion in volume and $491 million in open interest. Pacifica reported about $454 million in volume and $67.83 million in open interest.
These figures suggest that while market participation has cooled, positioning across top venues remains relatively firm. In practical terms, traders may be preserving leverage in anticipation of a larger move rather than unwinding risk aggressively.
A Cautious Market, Not a Full Retreat
The current signal from the Perp DEX sector is not one of outright capitulation, but of reduced activity paired with persistent exposure. That combination can matter: if volumes return, elevated open interest may amplify the next move in prices; if positions begin to unwind, it could indicate a broader leveraged exit. For now, Hyperliquid’s elevated open interest stands out as a key indicator of sentiment across the decentralized perpetuals market.
