Background: Hyperliquid Placed on MAS Investor Alert List
On June 26, decentralized derivatives protocol Hyperliquid responded via X (formerly Twitter) to its inclusion on the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Investor Alert List (IAL). The IAL is a non-punitive roster published by MAS to flag entities that may be mistakenly perceived as holding a MAS license or being under MAS supervision. Hyperliquid emphasized that being added to the IAL does not represent a ban, enforcement action, or regulatory violation—it serves solely as a risk warning to investors.
Official Response: Permissionless Infrastructure and Self-Custody Highlighted
In its statement, Hyperliquid stressed that it is a permissionless infrastructure and has never claimed to possess a MAS license or authorization. The network itself has undergone no changes; users retain full self-custody of their assets, with all transactions settled transparently on-chain. Hyperliquid noted that numerous major centralized exchanges and DeFi protocols have also been included on the IAL, limiting the list's practical significance.
Looking Ahead: Continued Engagement with Global Regulators
Hyperliquid stated it will continue collaborating with global regulatory bodies and institutions to support the establishment of clear, well-designed on-chain financial regulatory frameworks. This proactive communication strategy aims to mitigate investor concerns over compliance risks and demonstrates Hyperliquid's commitment to engaging constructively with regulators worldwide.
