The wall between traditional finance and crypto is crumbling. Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the global market infrastructure giant that owns the New York Stock Exchange, officially announced on June 22, 2026, a 50-50 joint venture with crypto exchange OKX. The new entity aims to operate as a U.S. registered broker-dealer and futures commission merchant once regulatory approvals are secured, bridging Wall Street with Web3 retail investors.

Direct Access to Tokenized Equities and Futures

According to the announcement, the joint venture will build infrastructure for tokenized assets and native digital financial products. Upon compliance, OKX's U.S. and international clients will be able to directly access ICE's traditional futures markets and the NYSE's tokenized stock market. This means OKX's roughly 120 million retail traders could one day trade Bitcoin alongside tokenized shares of Apple and Tesla from a single account, blurring asset class boundaries.

The deal extends ICE's strategic investment in OKX from March 2026. Wall Street's establishment is no longer content with institutional clients; it now aims to reach retail through crypto exchanges. The joint venture will be co-chaired by an ICE representative and former New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, who has collaborated with OKX since 2023. Cuomo said the future of financial markets depends on balancing innovation with regulation, and that combining OKX's tech with ICE's infrastructure can build a modern, resilient system.

ICE Executive: Bringing Wall Street Infrastructure to 120 Million People

Trabue Bland, Senior Vice President at ICE Futures Exchanges, noted that ICE has earned institutional trust through regulated market technology, and this joint venture is a key step to extend that infrastructure to 120 million retail traders. He emphasized that the foundation of global market operations is being redefined, and OKX offers the best gateway to reach the retail crowd.

Industry-wide, real-world asset tokenization (RWA) has moved from concept to reality. The ICE-OKX alliance signals not only institutional recognition of blockchain but also a future where traditional capital markets and crypto trading become increasingly indistinguishable. As regulatory frameworks mature, investors will gain broader access to global assets.
