Decentralized perpetuals trading platform Lighter said its EVM devnet is now live, adding a new environment for developers building around the protocol. The devnet is described as an EVM-equivalent rollup built by Lighter in collaboration with Axiom and powered by OpenVM.
According to the announcement, the new environment runs in sync with Lighter Core, and both systems are designed to settle to Ethereum through a single zero-knowledge proof. Lighter said developers can deploy using Foundry, Hardhat, Viem, and Ethers, while also reading account, balance, position, order, and market data from Lighter Core.
The company added that smart contracts on the devnet can be used to place, modify, and cancel orders. Developers can also move assets across the devnet L1, Lighter Core, and Lighter EVM. Access is currently being rolled out in batches, with applications open via email at evm@lighter.xyz. Lighter said broader access for all developers is planned in the coming weeks so the team can respond quickly to issues during the initial phase.
