Authorities in the State of Mexico have arrested two suspects, Diego Sebastián and Gerardo, in connection with the killings of Camilo Séptimo keyboardist Jonathan Meléndez, his pregnant wife, their daughter, and an employee, according to Cointelegraph, citing the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Mexico, or FGJEM. The family’s golden retriever was also killed.
Prosecutors said the suspects allegedly carried out the crime to obtain a cold wallet reportedly holding millions of dollars in Bitcoin. One of the suspects was identified as the victim’s business partner and is accused of using that relationship to enter the victim’s home.
The two men are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. A judge will decide whether enough evidence exists to continue the criminal proceedings. If convicted, the sentence tied to each victim could range from 25 to 70 years.
