Micron Technology said on Sept. 12 that it will grant record fiscal 2026 rewards to employees in Taiwan, with some payouts reaching the equivalent of 68 months of salary and the minimum cash compensation set at NT$1.7 million, or about $53,800. The company also said junior engineers will receive average total rewards of about NT$3.4 million, alongside annual equity grants. The move has not ended labor tensions. The Taoyuan union, which represents about two-thirds of Micron’s workforce in Taiwan, rejected the current plan and continued to demand that 15% of the company’s operating profit be included in employee bonus distribution. The union said it would keep advancing strike procedures if the company does not respond to its demands. Micron currently employs about 15,000 people in Taiwan and has invested more than NT$1.6 trillion there in total. According to the report, the richer rewards are seen as related to profit-sharing practices at South Korean memory chip makers. Samsung Electronics, facing union strike pressure earlier this year, agreed to create a special bonus pool equal to 10.5% of operating profit at its chip division.

Micron Technology said on Sept. 12 that it will issue record fiscal 2026 rewards to employees in Taiwan. Some payouts will be worth as much as 68 months of salary, while the minimum cash compensation will reach NT$1.7 million, or about $53,800.

For junior engineers, average total rewards will be about NT$3.4 million. The package also includes annual equity grants.

Even so, the Taoyuan union, which represents about two-thirds of Micron’s workforce in Taiwan, rejected the current arrangement. The union is still asking for 15% of the company’s operating profit to be included in employee bonus distribution, and said it will continue strike procedures if Micron does not respond to its demands.

Micron currently has about 15,000 employees in Taiwan and has invested more than NT$1.6 trillion in the region in total.

The report said the larger rewards are seen as linked to profit-sharing systems used by South Korean memory chip makers. Earlier this year, Samsung Electronics, under pressure from union strike action, agreed to set up a special bonus pool equal to 10.5% of operating profit at its chip division.

As labor talks at Micron Taiwan move into a critical stage, an actual strike could affect the company’s production pace and add disruption to global memory chip supply.
