On March 27, 2026, venture capital firm Nonagon Capital and Singapore-based blockchain infrastructure provider Startale Group announced a partnership to advance JPYSC, Japan’s first yen-pegged stablecoin backed by a trust bank. The collaboration will focus on developing AI agent-driven payment models, with a planned launch in the second quarter of 2026.

Partners and Objectives

Nonagon Capital, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializes in digital asset investments, while Startale Group is a global fintech company known for blockchain solutions and infrastructure. Together, they aim to build agentic payment use cases for JPYSC, including agent-to-agent settlements, automated purchases, and real-time micropayments, targeting enterprise-scale adoption and global expansion.

JPYSC Regulatory Framework and Token Structure

JPYSC is issued by Shinsei Trust & Banking, a unit of SBI Shinsei Bank, and classified as an Electronic Payment Instrument under Japan’s Payment Services Act. It represents trust beneficiary rights rather than a conventional digital token. Its regulatory structure exempts it from the country’s 1 million yen per-transaction transfer limit, enabling larger settlements for organizations. Distribution will be managed by SBI VC Trade, while technical aspects—security and smart contract architecture—are handled by Startale Group. The stablecoin’s blockchain is designed for interoperability between traditional finance and decentralized networks.

AI Agent Payment Use Cases and KYA System

A key innovation is JPYSC’s on-chain identity system called “Know Your Agent (KYA),” tailored for AI-driven payment environments to ensure compliance and integration with regulated infrastructure. Use cases focus on programmable settlement functions such as instant agent-to-agent transfers, automatic purchases, and continuous micropayments. Both firms highlighted that these efforts support the rise of AI-powered commerce, which Deloitte projects could reach $17.5 trillion in activity by 2030.

Pilot Expansion and International Plans

Startale Group stated via official channels that the partnership aims to “pioneer agentic payment use cases for Japan’s first bank-backed yen stablecoin” and will scale successful pilots to international markets. Leveraging cross-border expertise in fintech, regulatory frameworks, and AI infrastructure, the two companies expect to support high-frequency, programmable digital transactions globally. Further updates are expected as the Q2 2026 launch approaches.
