Singapore-based Ocean Network today announced the official beta launch of its decentralized peer-to-peer compute orchestration layer. The project aims to break the grip of centralized cloud providers on GPU resources, letting data scientists and developers call on-demand compute power without managing underlying infrastructure.
Decentralized computing has long struggled with a "coordination problem"—most developers don't want to configure SSH keys, manage remote nodes, or gamble on unreliable uptime. Ocean Network bridges this gap by renting high-performance GPUs from Aethir (including NVIDIA H200, H100, A100, and 1060 units) for beta-stage reliability. The team says: "We're not just giving developers access to GPUs—we're giving them an orchestration layer that makes decentralized compute feel like local execution. This is the shift from manual infrastructure management to pure automation." Going forward, Ocean Network will aggregate global idle GPUs into a unified P2P network, allowing anyone to run an Ocean Node and monetize underutilized compute resources.
Ocean Orchestrator: Native IDE Integration
The beta's core is the Ocean Orchestrator (formerly the VS Code extension). It natively integrates with VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and Antigravity. Unlike traditional cloud platforms that lock users into rigid hardware tiers, Ocean Orchestrator offers flexible resource allocation: users can filter specific GPU models (e.g., H200, A100, Tesla 4), set minimum CPU/RAM requirements; submit containerized jobs (Python or JavaScript) with one click after mapping the environment; and monitor jobs live with automatic result retrieval to the local environment.
Pay-Per-Use Escrow: Eliminating Idle Costs
Ocean Network challenges AWS and GCP's "Reserved Instance" model—where users pay for machine uptime even when idle. The network deploys a pay-per-use escrow mechanism on Base (Ethereum L2): funds are held in escrow and released only after a node completes and returns a job. Users are charged strictly for actual resource consumption (time, hardware, environment), with zero idle cost. All access and rewards are secured via wallet-based identity from Alchemy.
Compute-to-Data (C2D): Raw Data Never Leaves
For Web2 data scientists and AI agents handling sensitive data, Ocean Network implements Compute-to-Data (C2D). Algorithms run in isolated containers where data resides; raw data never leaves its perimeter; only secure compute outputs are returned. This addresses compliance-heavy scenarios in finance, healthcare, and more.
The beta initially serves the demand side—letting users run jobs. Later, Ocean Network will open the worker layer, enabling participants to monetize idle high-end GPUs and CPUs. The goal is to turn compute into a liquid utility, not a bottleneck.
