PANews has released its weekly selection of crypto stories, bringing together recent developments in regulation, markets, institutions and on-chain activity.
AI, outages and crypto infrastructure
One featured story looked at simultaneous outages affecting ChatGPT, Claude and Grok. The discussion centered on why Cloudflare became the main target of suspicion and what the incident revealed about the fragility and importance of infrastructure in the AI era.
Vitalik also appeared in the weekly list after pushing back on a prediction that AI could send Bitcoin down 50% within two years. He said there was no need for panic and argued that AI could not break the underlying hash functions and proof-of-work mechanism.
Another selected piece followed MoonPay CEO activity around Claude and crypto payments. MoonPay introduced its AI payment vault, PayBox, designed to let agents hold crypto wallets and complete payments directly, with private keys split through MPC and TEE technology.
The roundup also included a broader reflection on what society may be losing in the AI era, framed through the idea that AI is redefining the “price” of many social inputs by lowering the cost of computation, execution and answers. A separate item covered a 27-year-old former OpenAI and Anthropic researcher who resigned and warned that superintelligence could lead to human extinction within a decade as self-improvement accelerates.
Macro and regulatory themes
On regulation, PANews highlighted a story on the CLARITY Act. The article said the U.S. Senate was back in session to review the bill, but the 60-vote threshold and uncertainty tied to the midterm elections were tightening the path forward. If the bill fails to pass in 2026, clearer crypto rules may not arrive until 2027.
Market data from Glassnode was another major focus. According to the selected piece, privacy coins have climbed 213% this year, making the segment the strongest performer in crypto, with ZEC up 2,496% while Bitcoin is still down 36%.
Commodity markets were folded into the crypto reading list as well. A separate article said copper prices had broken to record highs, with LME futures touching $14,616, driven by AI and new energy demand and pushing the market into what it described as a supercycle.
PANews also picked a macro trading piece asking whether the current pullback is a buying opportunity as long as the market does not re-enter a rate-hike cycle. That story examined semiconductors, software, the Federal Reserve’s reaction function and the conditions needed for an agent boom.
Pantera Capital’s view on compute also made the list. Its thesis was that computing power is still in the early stage of financialization and could develop into a commodity market similar to electricity or crude oil, with opportunities in GPU compute trading platforms and derivatives.
Institutions, politics and public figures
One of the most eye-catching themes of the week was Hunter Biden’s token plan. PANews featured a story saying he intends to launch the meme coin LAPTOP on Base on Sept. 9, with part of the supply set to be airdropped to TRUMP investors and tied to prediction markets.
A follow-up article expanded on the same token. It said the LAPTOP name comes from the laptop scandal and that some of the airdrop would target users who lost money on the TRUMP coin, showing how political narratives and crypto speculation are crossing over.
Another selected story focused on securities tokenization. The SEC approved tokenized shares for large funds, and ARK applied to move fund shares on-chain, signaling that tokenized securities oversight has entered a case-by-case pilot stage.
ZEC’s rally was also framed through institutional positioning. PANews cited inflows into a Grayscale ETF as a force behind the token’s one-way advance, even as veteran crypto voices in the East publicly pushed back, leaving the market split.
Metaplanet was part of the roundup too. According to the selected coverage, executives received massive compensation linked to the company’s Bitcoin financing strategy, and shareholders moved to revoke 273 million stock options, escalating governance tensions.
Trading heat and ecosystem opportunities
Robinhood’s on-chain ecosystem was another standout. PANews included a practical guide covering wallets, trading terminals and launchpads after describing Robinhood Chain as generating $2.6 million a day.
Speculative activity on BNB Chain also made the cut. Four.meme launched its first 4Stock product, BNC4, and the on-chain price at one point rose to seven times the underlying stock price, turning the idea of “stocks trading on-chain in advance” into a market talking point.
In valuation work, one featured article screened the top 300 tokens by market capitalization and found that only Orca and Jupiter met all three conditions: revenue growth, valuation below peers and token prices lagging behind fundamentals. The piece presented them as potentially undervalued Solana DEX plays.
Another institutional perspective asked why Pump, Hyperliquid, Venice and EtherFi still look undervalued, tracing the valuation logic from VVV to HYPE.
Arc chain was also highlighted. PANews said its public mainnet is set to open on Sept. 16, while launchpads and meme trading have already started to build ahead of that date, with the project’s link to Circle drawing attention.
Web3, Ethereum and security
On the security front, PANews selected coverage of the Liquid Network attack in which 4,000 BTC were moved abnormally. The attacker later returned most of the BTC and left behind a $47 million bounty, setting off a community dispute.
Ethereum’s gas model was another discussion point. A selected article on EIP-8141 said the proposal would bring gas sponsorship into the protocol layer, letting users pay gas in stablecoins while keeping ETH settlement unchanged. That set off debate over ETH demand.
a16z’s Lattice Jolt was included as well. The project replaces elliptic curve cryptography with lattice-based cryptography, lifting zkVM proof speed by 3x and shrinking proof size to below 100 KB, according to the article, making it the first post-quantum SNARK to beat traditional approaches on speed.
Institutional staking trends around Ethereum also shifted. PANews highlighted data showing Lido captured only 5.7% of new ETH staking in the first half, while its market share slipped from 23.93% to 21.18% as institutional capital moved to other providers.
The roundup also covered Consensys restructuring. The original company was renamed MetaMask and will focus on consumer products, while a new Consensys will take over institutional infrastructure, reflecting a move from wallet software toward an open money platform.
