Billionaire macro investor Paul Tudor Jones has once again thrown his weight behind Bitcoin, calling it the best hedge against inflation in the current environment, while cautioning that U.S. equity valuations are stretched to historic extremes.
Bitcoin vs Gold: Fixed Supply Advantage
In a recent podcast interview, Jones highlighted Bitcoin's fixed supply cap of 21 million coins as a key differentiator from gold, which still sees annual supply growth of about 1.5%. He noted that the post-March 2020 era of aggressive monetary stimulus has made Bitcoin the go-to asset for “inflation trades,” attracting capital seeking protection against fiat currency devaluation.
Stock Market Warning Signals
Jones expressed clear caution on U.S. equities, pointing to the stock market capitalization-to-GDP ratio hovering near all-time highs—a level that previously preceded major corrections. He also warned that a wave of upcoming IPOs and reduced share buybacks would increase equity supply, pressuring prices. While stopping short of calling the market a bubble, he described expected future returns as “very low” and advised investors to prepare for challenging conditions.
Ripple Effects of a Correction
The legendary investor added that a significant stock market correction would have far-reaching consequences beyond financial markets. It could worsen the government budget deficit through lower tax revenues and destabilize the bond market, amplifying macroeconomic uncertainty. Jones urged investors to stay vigilant and consider Bitcoin as a form of portfolio insurance.
Jones, who famously predicted the 1987 crash, continues to influence both crypto and traditional finance circles. Bitcoin is currently trading around $63,000, with the market closely watching for any moves from macro heavyweights.
